I've been city hopping this week. Today I was in Baltimore for one of my work days at the Maryland Historical Society, and Tuesday I spent another misty day in DC. Tuesday morning I rode to work with my hubby and had a lovely breakfast with him, then I hopped the Metro over to the Mall and did a little walking about. (In this picture of the Capital you can see they're setting up the tent for the Memorial Day concert this weekend.)
Even though the skies were gray, there were still some lovely pictures for the taking.
I love how DC has entire streets that look classic like this. This one happens to be a section of Constitution Ave...
...right across the street from my destination, The Smithsonian Museum of American History where some ladies from the Baltimore Applique Society and I met and spent a few hours upstairs in the textiles department looking at some beautiful quilts! I have to work again tomorrow, but after the busy week I've had, I plan on staying home this Memorial Day weekend, spending some time with family, and hopefully getting a little sewing in :)
Since I haven't had a Give Away in quite a while, in honor of Memorial Day weekend I thought I'd offer this Red, White & Blue bundle of fat quarters from the Heritage Prints collection from Benartex Fabrics. Leave a comment on this post, and on Tuesday morning I'll draw one random winner to send them to :)
Finally, whether you are enjoying this weekend at a cookout, graduation
party, playing in the garden, jumping in the pool,
or watching the Indy 500...take a moment to say a prayer of thanks, and
fly the American flag in honor of the ones who have given the ultimate
sacrifice to preserve our nation and keep us safe. Have a Happy and
Safe Memorial Day weekend :)
Enjoy the day!
~ Dawn

A HUGE thank you to all our veterans...
Thanks for the giveaway...these would make a wonderful quilt for the Veterans Home..
Nice photos of D.C. Dawn. I love visiting that city. Quiet weekend - church and then cemetery to visit my Dad's grave. Maybe some of the kids will come over. Sewing will be included for sure.
Love DC and the Smithsonian! Haven't been there in years, but I have many good memories from there. Thanks for the pictures and bringing back the good times!
Those fabrics are gorgeous, too! Thanks for the chance to win them.

Beautiful pictures of D.C. That's one of the trips I would like to take.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
nice pix! thanx for the chance to win the red, white and blue! am going to make a couple of quilts for the firehouse 4th of july fund raiser and could use a few extra pieces i think.
I have always wanted to go to Washington D.C. to see all the sites. The Smithsonian came to our city with an traveling show. I did not know they displayed quilts. I hope one day to make it there one day.
Thank you for the lovely give away!
Washington D.C looks very interesting and I wish you a very special Memorial Day weekend.
Wonderful pics of DC. I live here but did not realize that I could go see quilts at the Smithsonian! I will definitely make the trip downtown to see them! Thanks for the info and for the giveaway! Have a wonderful Memorial day weekend!
It's been such a long time since I've visited Washington. I look forward to doing that again when hubby retires. Beautiful fabrics- Thanks for the chance to win! Remembering this weekend that FREEDOM is never FREE!
It's funny how seldom I go into downtown Washington when I live so close...there is just so much to see and do. Might think about going down this weekend though to watch The Rolling Thunder! Thanks for the RWB giveaway too...
We drove through Washington once years ago. I wish I would have gone on a tour to learn and see more. Just driving is a bit of a let down when there is so much to see. Have to put a few repairing stitches in my vintage flag..definately going to fly this weekend!
My husband is a Vietnam veteran and, to us, Memorial Day is so much more than a chance to have a BBQ. Thank you for stressing the importance of this day in your blog post. I've not been to D.C. in many years, but there are so many wonderful, classic locations there. We really should try to go again sometime. Thanks for a chance in your nice giveaway.
I enjoyed your photos. We have visited the east coast but only South Carolina and south of there. I would love to take a trip out there and see these places. We will spend the weekend at home and be thankful that we live in such a great country and remember the sacrifices made.
Sounds like you had a wonderful day at the Smithsonian. What quilts inspired you? I was inspired by some old red white and blue quilts in old magazines and went today and purchased a blue and white toile fabric at a local quilt shop that will be great for a memorial day quilt. I would be honored to add your giveaway fabric to my project as these fabrics would be perfect for my patriotic quilt project. Thank you for the opportunity.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend in the Nations Capital City.
Thanks for the chance! Happy Memorial Day!
I thought all those pictures looked familiar and it reminded me that I haven't hopped on the metro in ages to go enjoy Washington, D.C. Thanks for the reminder and the giveaway
