Voting has Started for the Moda Piece & Comfort Challenge Quilts!

This is "Libberty Logs", the winner from our shop for the Moda Piece & Comfort Challenge pieced and quilted by Maggie Vargas!   This beauty is currently hanging in the shop, so stop by soon to check it out in person :)

The voting on Moda's blog for Viewer’s Choice starts today – Thursday, April 30th – and continues until Midnight on Wednesday, May 6th.  Please use This Link to hop over there and cast a vote for Maggie's quilt (You vote using the list on the right hand side of the Moda Blog ~ they're listed alphabetical by shop, so look for Spring Water Designs)

Here are a few close ups of the quilting that Maggie did.  She used her Avante with Pro-Stitcher that she purchased from Spring Water Designs this past fall.  Maggie was one of our Renters, until she decided to purchase one of our shop Demo machines, now she can quilt all she wants/whenever she wants in her own home.  I love to see all the quilts that are getting finished on machines that we've sent out into the world :)

Maggie used a digital allover panto design that she found with stars and flags.  It's a really cool design to use on this quilt.

Maggie's quilt won a $50.00 Gift Card to Spring Water Designs as the winner from our shop, and now she's included as one of almost 200 entries nationwide for Moda's online Viewers Choice.  Vote for her, and tell all your friends to vote too! You can see all of the entries on the Moda Blog, and click on the photo of Maggie's quilt there to see a write up of Maggie's inspiration.  Maggie is a veteran herself, so this cause was near and dear to her heart.  She makes alot of charity quilts, and I think she plans to donate this one too.

I'd like to say Thank You to Maggie for her service to our country, and on the behalf of all of us...Good Luck in the Moda Piece & Comfort Challenge!

PS ~ These beautiful patriotic fabrics have been really popular ~ just in case you get inspired when viewing all the wonderful entries...we still have some of the fabrics, and kits for the Flag Quilt still in Stock.  Proceeds from the fabric sales are donated by Moda to USA Cares.org!

Enjoy the day!

Shameless Plug

A friend of mine asked to see it, so here is our quilt shop display of my Rootin' Tootin' Cowboy quilt complete with kits that are available on our website. It's been so exciting to have people calling in from all over the country wanting the kit to my quilt! So far it has been people who have subscriptions to the magazine, but the June/July Issue is available on newsstands now, so go out and pick one up! (They really are on sale now ~ I got so excited when I saw Carol's subscription issue that I just had to announce it was out, hopfully I didn't have too many people running around to newstands before they were there). Around my area I have spotted Quilt Magazine at Walmart, Joann's, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million & Borders newstands.

You can also subscribe at the Quilt Magazine Website. This is a great Issue to start a subscription with ~ I love the Patriotic Cover quilt (made with Jo Morton fabrics from her Fairfax collection), and it's just packed with great projects for the summer, plus articles on Ricky Tims and Bonnie Sullivan!

I don't think they're up quite yet, but soon the patterns for my extra pillows and a pj/toy storage bag that coordinate with the Cowboy Quilt will be available as free downloads at the magazine's website, so check them out again in the future, they have lots of great free projects there :)

Enjoy the day!

Lights, Camera, Action!

This is is a quilt top that I've finished this week. It's going to be a gift for my friend Katy who is a working actress in Hollywood (waving to you Kate!). I thought of her as soon as I saw this fabric collection. The fabric line is called "Lights, Camera, Action!" designed by Gail Kessler for Andover Fabrics. It was quick to make up, and somewhat of a fun challenge. The large center focal block is pieced on the diagonal using the focus fabrics in the two colorways. Matching up the pictures was quite "interesting", but they give good directions and I'm pretty happy with the outcome. The popcorn block rows are pieced, but the other borders are just fussy cut strips from the fabric line. The pattern is a free download from Andover's website and we have the fabric and kits for the quilt in our shop.

I even had some fun with the shop display last night. I found a little mock Oscar statue at the mall and we made up fat quarter popcorn bags ~ I have way too much fun at work :)

Don't know how much work I'll get done today, I've taken the day off to take my son to get his wisdom teeth pulled this morning and I'll be playing nurse this afternoon. We are well stocked in pudding, Ice Cream and video games, so hopefully all will go smoothly!

Enjoy the day!
