A Hometown Gem

On Saturday, March 23rd Dawn and I had the privilege of attending the opening day for Mimi Dietrich's Hometown Girl exhibit at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore MD. This is a year long exhibit featuring the designs and works of the fabulous Mimi herself, and it is certainly not to be missed!
Mimi welcoming the full auditorium to the opening
The program was kicked off with words from Mimi, starting with the first quilt she ever touched and followed her quilting history to her discovery of Baltimore Album quilts and her love of teaching quilters. It was amazing to see the auditorium filled with quilters, family, and friends. The talk was followed by a reception with wine and cheese and then we were onto the quilts!

Even the wine bottles were celebrating our "Hometown Girl"!
The exhibit features three galleries of quilts, an interactive "Build a Quilt" Lego station, and a video of Mimi. As a quilter, this exhibit is a must see. Mimi and the Historical Society have put together an incredible exhibit.

It was a truly enjoyable day; full of laughter, friends, and of course the quilts. The exhibit will be open for an entire year, and we highly recommend going to see it!

Just a handful of exhibit visitors!
Dawn and I caught up with the Hometown Girl herself!
...We'll definitely be going back again!

Enjoy the Day!

More Explorations at Handi Quilter

Here are a few more "sights & sounds" from my walking around the HQ Headquarters during my free time at lunch today...enjoy :)

Here are a couple of the wonderful Handi Quilter educators that spent the week sharing their knowledge with us. I grabbed Carrie, Vicki, and Marie on our way out the door and they were nice enough to let me snap a photo.  Missing here is Cheryl and Cathy.  They were an amazing (and patient) team, and I can't wait to go home and play on our Infinity and Pro Stitcher and use some of my new skills :)

Enjoy the day!

A Little Peek at the Handi Quilter Headquarters in Utah

Bob & I have been here in Salt Lake City Utah this week for training at the Handi Quilter headquarters.  I wanted to share just a few of the photos I've been taking of the Amazing quilts on display throughout the entire building. As soon as you walk in the front door you're greeted with these beauties :)

Quilts are on the stair well...

,,,and where we eat lunch every day.

The quilting of course is Awesome!

There are quilts throughout the building in all the offices...

...and conference rooms, and cubbies.  They are so nice and put up with us all going around and checking them all out :)

Check this out ~ this one by Cathy Wiggins is even quilted on Leather!

I'll try to post more tomorrow evening when we're collapsed in the hotel :)

Enjoy the day!

Happy Labor Day!

Spotted this banner at the Maryland Renaissance Festival yesterday, and thought it was timely for Labor Day :)

We spent a lovely day eating, drinking, wandering, enjoying music...and eating some more.  Hope you are enjoying your Labor Day weekend too :)

The MD Renn Fest runs every weekend through October 20th in Crownsville MD, and definitely worth an afternoon.

Enjoy the day!

Sheep & Wool

Last Saturday I spent a Creative Excursion day with my two Fiber Friends enjoying wool in about every form that wool can come in...

...at the annual Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival.  The weather was perfect for a day at the fair grounds...

...Amazing colors were everywhere.  This is from Mohair in Motion ~ I think Mary bought some of this for spinning :)

...Beautiful baskets from Friends in Reed from Howard County Maryland :)

 ...Barns full of wool!

We even took a little sit-down break and made these sweet wool pincushions to stick into a spool of thread at the Maryland Make It With Wool booth. (That's Mary's, mine, and Starlyn's)

...Of course there was carnival food ~ and yes, the sky was that blue all day :)

...and a little Bluegrass here and there :)

...and did I mention the sheep?

 ...and Sheep Dog demonstrations!

...And at the end of the day, we were all a little pooped ~ but we had a blast :)

...Of course I came home with some goodies...

...And I've already put some of them to use :)

If you're anywhere near Central Maryland the first weekend of May next year, take a day and experience the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival!

Enjoy the day!
